Wallpaper hanging is not as difficult as you might think, whether you have DIY experience or not, with a little bit of care and attention you can transform your room in no time at all.
The key to good results? It’s all in the preparation…
This may seem dull, and the thought of just sticking the paper over the top of ‘that crack in the wall’ may look like it solves the problem but trust us. Do this job properly and you’ll make the rest of the job much easier.
First you need to remove the previous paper from the wall. This will require soaking the paper with warm water. Once fully wet, you can start scraping it off with a stripping knife. If you’ve got a large area to do, you may want to look at using a steam stripper.
Once your walls are clean and dry you need to make check for any holes, cracks or defects in the surface. If you do find something, this should be filled with a good quality filler, smoothed out and then allowed to dry.
A word on lining paper.
Most manufactures recommend using a lining paper before hanging your paper. It is not always needed, but if your walls are old and have many imperfections then you may want to consider lining the walls first for better results.
Tools for the job.
We’re getting close to hanging now. Make sure you’ve got enough space to work and we recommend the following tools to make your job easier.
Rollers and Tray
Spirit Level or Plump Line
Sharp Craft Knife (Important that it’s very sharp)
Sharp Craft Knife (Important that it’s very sharp)
Spirit Level or Plump Line
It's time to hang.
In your printmywallpaper.co.uk box you will find your printed drops rolled up. Each drop is numbered at the top. This tells you the position this needs to be hung on the wall from left to right. Please check before hanging any damaged or defective lengths as we cannot accept returns once they have been hung.
To start, we must make sure that each drop will be hung straight. To do this measure the width of the first drop and then make a pencil mark on the wall, near the ceiling, one wallpaper width from the edge. From this mark hang your plumb line or spirit level and draw a vertical line down the wall. Our first drop will line up with this line to ensure your pattern lines up seamlessly.
You now need to follow the set of instructions depending on which material you have chosen.
1. Start by rolling the wallpaper paste straight onto the wall. You need to cover the entire surface evenly. The key to hanging wallpaper is being patient. Check that you haven’t missed an area or this will cause the paper to bubble up and you won’t get the desired finished.
2. Match the edge of your drop to the line you drew in the previous steps. Once straight, smooth out the drop removing all air bubbles with your pasting brush and sponge. This should be done working from top to bottom, starting in the middle and pushing the air bubbles out to the edge.
3. Use the end of the brush's bristles to gently tap the paper where the wall meets the ceiling and skirting. To trim any excess paper, mark a line down the corner of the paper with the back of the scissors, ease the paper away from the wall and trim it with the scissors. Brush the paper back into place.
4. Line up your next drop to seamlessly butt against the first. Make sure you have matched up the pattern to the first drop. Repeat steps 2 to 4 until all drops have been hung.
This paper comes pre-pasted. The glue on the back of each drop needs activating before it can be hung.
1. Take the printmywallpaper.co.uk box that your wallpaper arrived in. Remove the contents and take the drops out of the bag. The open flaps of the box should now fold down into slots to double the sides of the packaging. Place the box inside the plastic bag. This now creates a trough that can be filled with enough water to cover a single roll.
2. Once you have filled the trough with water you are ready to activate the glue. Take the first drop and submerge the roll in the water. Agitate so that the water gets the whole surface wet. Any areas that remain dry will not activate the glue.
3. Slowly pull the drop from the water, letting the excess water runoff back into the trough, and lay down the drop flat on your protective drop sheet or pasting table.
4. Now you need to 'book' the drop. Do this by taking the top of the drop and gently folding it into the center with pasted sides together, then do the same to the bottom of the drop. By allowing the paper to relax by 'booking' decreases the likelihood of air bubbles remaining and seams shrinking once the wallpaper dries on the wall.
5. Unfold the top half of the 'booked' paper and line up with your marked line. You should leave an extra 50mm of bleed above your starting position for trimming a clean, straight line once finished.
6. Match the edge of your drop to the line you drew in the previous steps. Once straight, smooth out the drop removing all air bubbles with your pasting brush and sponge. This should be done working from top to bottom, starting in the middle and pushing the air bubbles out to the edge.
7. Line up your next drop to seamlessly butt against the first. Make sure you have matched up the pattern to the first drop. Repeat steps 2 to 4 until all drops have been hung.
8. Use the end of the brush's bristles to gently tap the paper where the wall meets the ceiling and skirting. To trim any excess paper, mark a line down the corner of the paper with the back of the scissors, ease the paper away from the wall and trim it with the scissors. Brush the paper back into place.
Although we recommend hanging from left to right, if there is a door or window on this first drop you may find it easier to start with a drop without this. You will have to measure each drops width and mark this on the wall to find your starting position.
Try to avoid getting any paste on the front of the drop. Use a damp sponge to gently remove it if this does happen.
How do I measure my wall correctly?
All walls are different and it's important you measure yours accurately before ordering your wallpaper. You should measure your walls height at each corner. Walls are rarely completely square so it's important to make sure you find a length that will cover the whole wall. Again measure the width near the top of the wall and again near the bottom and use the longer length to cover the whole area. We then recommend you add 5cm of extra material to each side to give you more material to play with when installing, all excess can just be trimmed off once you're finished.
Can the wallpaper be cleaned?
Yes it can, it's washable and can be gently scrubbed with a sponge to remove marks. (Just make sure you don't over wet the wall)
Is it easy to remove?
Our ready-pasted paper comes off the same way it goes up. By using water to dampen the paper will reactivate the glue, and then, peel away the paper in sections. We recommend that you then wash the walls down to remove any excess paste that might have been left behind.
Our traditional paper comes off like traditional paper. Just wet then strip.
Can it be recycled?
Our paper is made from 10% post consumer waste and manufactured using 100% renewable energy. It is FSC certified and can be recycled after use.
Is the paper fire tested?
The wallpaper has been tested by the leading fire testing laboratory in the UK achieving a Euroclass C1-s1-s0 rating in accordance with BS EN13823. This should meet most building requirements for commercial spaces.

Returns & Exchange
If you are not entirely satisfied with your purchase, we're here to help.
However, each product has been tailored to your needs. We cannot take any responsibility for wrong measurements or for problems with installations.
Only files that are of a high resolution are used to create our collections. The quality of these images can vary depending on the size produced. Wallpaper printing is not designed for viewing from a close distance but to provide an effect for the whole room, it may appear blurry from this distance. If you are unsure about the quality we recommend requesting a test print before purchase.
You have 14 calendar days to return an item from the date you received it. To be eligible for a return, your item must be unused and in the same condition that you received it. Your item must be in the original packaging. Your item needs to have the receipt or proof of purchase so we can return your money.
Once we receive your item, we will inspect it and notify you that we have received your returned item. We will immediately notify you on the status of your refund after inspecting the item.
If your return is approved, we will initiate a refund to your credit card (or original method of payment). You will receive the credit within a certain amount of days, depending on your card issuer's policies.
You will be responsible for paying for your own shipping costs for returning your item. Shipping costs are non-refundable. If you receive a refund, the cost of return shipping will be deducted from your refund.
